Our Kitchen Reno: Creating a Space That Feels Like Us
A look inside our kitchen renovation, from bold colour choices and beautiful details to creating a practical family space that feels completely us.
If you’ve spent any time looking through my work, you’ll probably know that I’m not afraid of colour!
My home is probably the clearest expression of my design style. There are dusty blues, deep burgundies, pinks, lilacs and plenty of black, mixed with artwork, plants, collected pieces and things that simply make me happy.
I’ve never wanted our home to feel like a showroom. I want it to feel designed, but also lived in.
As an interior designer and graphic designer, I naturally think a lot about colour, composition and balance. But becoming a mum has made me think just as much about practicality. A room can look lovely in a photograph, but if it doesn’t work for the people living in it, something has gone wrong.
That balance between personality and practicality has become a huge part of how I approach interiors professionally too.
I love mixing old and new, playing with scale and bringing unexpected colours together. Artwork is everywhere, shelves are there to be styled and I will almost always find somewhere to introduce another shade of pink. But I also think a home should evolve.
Some rooms have been painted more than once. Furniture moves around. Things get added, removed and repurposed. What worked for us a few years ago doesn’t necessarily work for us now. And I think that’s the fun of it.
Your home doesn’t have to be “finished”. It can grow with you, collect memories and become more personal over time.
For me, the best interiors aren't necessarily the most perfect ones. They’re the ones where you walk through the door and immediately get a sense of who lives there.
